Dr Simon Cassidy

Diffraction and Magnetometry Facility Supervisor

Simon joined the group in 2010 as a Part II student and obtained his DPhil in 2015 working on iron-based superconductors. He is now the facility supervisor for Diffraction and Magnetometry and tutor of Inorganic Chemistry at Somerville College.

Dr Rob Smyth

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Rob completed his DPhil in the group in 2023, exploring the Synthesis, Structure and Magnetism of Mixed-Anion Solids. He is currently investigating new chalcogenide perovskites for solar light harvesting and catalysis. Email: robert.smyth@chem.ox.ac.uk

Lemuel joined the group as an undergraduate investigating a range of soft chemical transformations of layered manganese oxide chalcogenides. He re-joined the group through the EPSRC OxICFM CDT in April 2023.

Kasamol graduated from Silpakorn University in Thailand and joined the group in 2023.

James Hill

Trinity College

James graduated from the University of Cambridge and was a part of the 2023 OxICFM CDT cohort. His research currently involves looking at ways to find and improve materials that help tackle the huge challenges posed by climate change and lead to a more sustainable society.

Katie Steele

Katie was a Part II student in the group in 2019/20 and is continuing as a DPhil student on the OxICFM EPSRC-CDT programme jointly supervised by Mike Hayward. She is working on the intercalation chemistry of layered chalcogenides.

Georgia was a Part II student in the group in 2023/24 and is continuing as a DPhil student on the IMAT-CDT programme jointly supervised by Robert Hoye.

Annabel was a Part II student in the group in 2023/24 and is continuing as a DPhil student on the IMAT-CDT programme jointly supervised by Ludmilla Steier.

Shayor Ghosh

Shay joined the group in 2025 and is working on the synthesis, characterisation and magnetic behaviour of novel oxide materials.

Maciej Solnicki

EPSRC CDT DPhil Student

Magdalen College

Maciej is a graduate of Edinburgh University, and has conducted a research spell at the Max Planck Institute for solid state chemistry in Stuttgart. He joined the group in 2025 on the EPSRC CDT in superconductivity and is working jointly with Amalia Coldea's group in Condensed Matter Physics.

Euan is a graduate of Durham University. He joined the group in 2025 on the EPSRC CDT Inorganic Materials for Advanced Manufacturing and is working jointly with Steve Blundell's group in Condensed Matter Physics.

Aman DeSilva

IMAT CDT DPhil Student

Exeter College

Aman completed his part II in the group with a joint project with Professor Hiroshi Kageyama at the University of Kyoto looking at high pressure synthesis of transition metal oxychalcogenides. He is continuing in the group as part of the IMAT CDT working jointly with Anna Regoutz.
